The Sri Lanka Coconut Biochar Project converts coconut petiole waste into biochar through slow pyrolysis. Located in the heart of Sri Lanka’s Coconut Triangle, the project processes approximately 164,204 tonnes of coconut petiole annually, producing 36,755 tonnes of dry biochar and sequestering an estimated 72,059 tonnes of CO₂e each year. The project supports sustainable agriculture, pest control, and rural employment while delivering durable carbon removal.
